Po štúdiu na gymnáziu absolvoval Obchodnú akadémiu v Budapešti a obchodnú prax v Hamburgu, Berlíne, a aj v ďalších miestach Európy a v zámorí. Popritom študoval a komponoval hudbu. V rokoch 1921 – 1945 bol hotelierom na Novom Štrbskom Plese vo Vysokých Tatrách, potom riaditeľom Hudobnej školy v Spišskej Novej Vsi. Od roku 1963 žil v Bratislave. Skomponoval vyše 200 piesní, 12 operiet a 14 orchestrálnych diel, množstvo skladieb a piesní pre tanečný orchester, sakrálne skladby, zborové, komorné, prednesové a inštruktívne kompozície. Jeho skladby sa vysielali v rozhlase a vychádzali tlačou v Československu a Nemecku. Jeho hudobná pozostalosť je uložená v Štátnej vedeckej knižnici – Literárnom a hudobnom múzeu v Banskej Bystrici, ktoré sa zaslúžilo o vydanie dvoch CD s jeho tvorbou. Pochovaný je v rodinnej hrobke v Banskej Bystrici.
After finishing grammar school, Ján Móry studied at the Academy of Commerce in Budapest and completed internships in Hamburg, Berlin and other cities in Europe and overseas. Simultaneously, he studied and composed music. From 1921 to 1945 he worked as a hotel manager in Nové Štrbské Pleso in the High Tatras and later as a music school director in Spišská Nová Ves. Since 1963, he lived in Bratislava. He composed more than 200 songs, 12 operettas and 14 orchestral works, a large number of pieces and songs for dance music orchestras, as well as sacral, choir and chamber music, recital and instructional compositions. His music was played on the radio and published in Czechoslovakia and Germany. His musical estate is deposited in the Museum of Literature and Music at the State Scientific Library in Banská Bystrica, which was instrumental in his music being issued on two CDs. Ján Móry is buried in the family crypt in Banská Bystrica.
