Citlivo stvárnené dielo s moderným výrazom rešpektuje staré náboženské zobrazovacie tradície a podporuje intímny charakter pietneho miesta. Centrom obradnej siene krematória je stena s pohyblivou konštrukciou, vybudovanou okolo katafalku, navrhnutá Elenou Bellušovou. Reflexná plocha hliníkovej steny výrazne odráža svetlo, ktoré symbolicky spájame s poslednou rozlúčkou. Povrch je vyzdobený vertikálnou abstraktnou maľbou v strieborných a zlatých tónoch.

In 1972, Czechoslovakia adopted the guiding principles for the work of the so called Civic Issues Units. Their responsibilities included overseeing the construction of ceremonial venues – wedding halls and crematoriums. This effort was ideologically driven, with the aim of replacing religious ceremonies with civil ones. Regional authorities were charged with the task of building these facilities, which were to include monumental works of art. The Crematorium in Banská Bystrica was built as a part of this effort. It is located on a slope near the municipality of Kremnička, surrounded by a sombre forested landscape. The building, completed in 1980, was designed by architect Igor Teplan senior. The artistic elements of the modern building were created by sculptor Miroslav Ksandr and painter and sculptor Elena Bellušová.

The entrance to the Crematorium is through a tall and narrow gate designed by M. Ksandr. Its main feature is a relief with a mystical draped figure. The left leaf shows the figure from the back, gesturing towards its counterpart on the right leaf, where the mysterious figure faces the arriving visitor. This subtle image with a modern air respects the traditional religious imagery and reinforces the intimate nature of the solemn site. Inside, a screen designed by Elena Bellušová and sliding on a mechanism around the catafalque forms the centre of the ceremonial space. The polished aluminium surface of the screen reflects light, symbolically associated with the final goodbye. It is decorated with abstract vertical forms painted in silver and gold hues.
